Art Shows and Installations
I've developed a way to show art and science side by side that starts people talking and thinking about genetics and human ancestry.
Each art piece has a companion storyboard that explains the data, evolutionary concepts, and family story of the participant.
Science teachers bring their students to my shows and tell me the combination of art and science starts animated discussions.
Curious about how paleoanthropology and genetics are revealing the human story? I bring an artist's perspective to the research and data.
My work parallels what genetics, anthropology, and geography reveal about human evolution. I combine DNA data with portrait and landscape to show the human story from prehistory to current time. Here are some examples:
Kansas City Truman Medical Center
As part of the Center's Healing Arts Program, 30 works are on display from August through January 2012. The show includes Polyforms, DNA Portraits, and their companion storyboards.
Cold Spring Harbor (CSHL) Personal Genomes Meeting
One Cool Molecule posters on display and a talk at the annual "Personal Genomes" science meeting.
Ancestry: Diversity and Commonality in Community
DNA portraits of a diverse community commissioned by the University of Minnesota. The work are the foundation pieces for UROC's art collection. Read about exhibit.
Poster and Art for Arts in Healthcare Conference
To show science and art side by side in an innovative way, my display included a science poster and a work of art. See the art and poster here.
Darwin and Biodiversity Conference, Costa Rica
Art display and presentation to the scientists at the international science conference on evolution and the environment.
Cold Spring Harbor (CSHL) Annual Symposium
"Evolution: the Molecular Landscape" symposium celebrated the year of Darwin with scientists presenting their current research. My work was on display in Grace Auditorium.
Noble Conference at Gustavus Adolphus
DNA Portraits at "Who Were the First Humans?" science and humanities conference about human origins.
The Bell Museum of Natural History
Exhibit during the "Year of Darwin", including graphical storyboards showing the genetic concepts in the art.
Life Science Alley Conference
Exhibit at the annual Minnesota science and technology conference
The Woman's Club of Minneapolis
One person show of DNA Portraits
Homewood Studios Gallery
One person show of collected works
American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG)
Display in the exhibit hall during the international conference
