American artist and survivor
I visited The Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Reading Room. It was free and open to the public in D.C. for six days in June 2026.
Fat books holding 3.5 million emails. Fifteen-foot Trump-Epstein timeline. A wall of angry, grief-stricken notes, handwritten by over 5,000 visitors.
But it was the six vivid pastel and charcoal pencil masterworks by Maria Farmer that transfixed me. I was mesmerized by her excruciating expressive art. You could feel pain and rage in the rough swaths of color and ragged strokes of black.
Hung on one wall together, each 4 x 5-foot original work had a caption scrawled on top and bottom.
These small digital images don’t capture the power in the full-sized originals. Yet, how does Maria’s art make you feel? Stop. Look again. Go slowly.
Do you feel, as I did, a gut-gripping fury at the visual story of her stolen youth? Awe at her indomitable spirit in the face of cruelty?
Maria and her sister, Annie, were among the very first to report Epstein to the FBI. Thirty years ignored. Vindication only now via the “Epstein files.”
