About the science:

Rebel Artist for Science: Rebel Artist is me and also a character in my books, Decoding Plant Genomes and We Want Our Genome Story. We share my experiences talking with scientists and learning about genome engineering.

Artist represents more than me—she represents all of us. To understand our genome (your DNA), we’re all students, and learning together we form a pro-science community.

Model OrganismsEach sticker features a different model organism used in scientific research.

  • Solanum lycopersicum:  The yellow-red, pumpkin-like fruit are gene-edited tomatoes for urban environments
  • Solanum lycopersicum:  Bright red CRISPR tomatoes are edited to form small, tight clusters
  • Arabidopsis thaliana:  The tiny, delicate plants with the white flowers enlarged five times!
  • Zea mays:  Maize (corn) and the many colors that mobile elements (transposons) create
  • Indigenous to Chile and Peru, Physalis peruviana is the scientific name for the groundcherry

Genome Verse: Even though the DNA molecule is nano-sized, it holds ginormous amounts of information. All organisms use it to maintain themselves and pass it to their offspring.

DNA is everywhere! The marvelous molecule is a complex genome verse that scientists continue to explore. Some of the designs are modified and available as notecards.
