Media: I print your selection on my giclée printer on 100% cotton archival paper with pigment inks for high-resolution and vibrant, long-lasting color.

The artwork is matted with an acid-free mat and backing board. The mat measures 8 x 10 inches and fits a standard 8 x 10-inch frame. The image inside the mat window is about 4.5 x 6.5 inches.

Each work starts with pencil sketches to shape ideas, and then portions are painted and digitized. Translucent shapes and colors are added in many layers using various digital tools to build the finished image.

The Tempo and Mode series celebrates the dynamic quality of evolution. Tempo means the speed of evolutionary change — fast or slow. Mode means the how — the actual mechanisms driving that change. More about this core idea in evolutionary biology here.

Synesthesia — Mutation Rhapsody is the first in the Tempo and Mode body of work. If you don’t believe superpowers are real, consider this: what if you could taste words or see colors when hearing sounds?

Some humans do have unusual abilities. They have genetic variants for a neurological condition called synesthesia. Many artists, poets, and musicians claim it as their superpower. Read more about the genomic science in my article Synesthesia is a Superpower

Alas, I don’t have it, so I gave synesthesia to the character in my books. She uses her “Listening Eyes” and “Observing Fingers” as extra-sensory powers to understand genomics.
